Planning a Bathroom
Planning is an essential part of preparing for any home project. It is a key element in ensuring that projects go smoothly and more importantly that you get what you want at the end of the day.
First things first
The initial stages of planning should be done by you, the client. You’ve decided that you want to upgrade your bathroom or wetroom and now you need to start thinking about what you really want. It starts by taking a long hard look at your bathroom.
Factors to be considered will include:
How long do you plan to stay in your property
An important consideration when deciding on installing a new bathroom is whether you plan to stay in your property for a long time, or whether you think you might move on in a couple of years. If you are going to be living in your property for a number of years, then you may wish to spend more time and money on your new bathroom. You may consider splashing out and getting a wetroom or spending more money on the bathroom fittings.
If you are looking to sell your property in the near future, then you might not need to be so choosy about the fittings; you can go for a style that is more functional and will appeal to people who may be looking to buy the property.
Is the bathroom for your own home or a rental property?
Obviously, if the bathroom is going to be in a rental property, then you will need to look for more hard wearing fittings that are cheaper to replace or repair than some of the designer furniture. We call this type of fitting “contract”.
What is your budget?
Luckily, these days there are many different designs and styles available on the market which accommodate every budget. Before you start anything, you need to be sure of what you have available to spend.
Work out your style. What do you like and dislike?
You need to do some soul searching to work out what your style is. How can you tell? The best way is to get a big piece of paper or card and cut out pictures of bathrooms or wetrooms that you like the look of.
If you buy a copy of Homes and Gardens or Kitchens and Bedrooms and Bathrooms. This is a good starting point. Just cut out pictures you like the look of. Even if you can’t explain why, it will start to give you a pattern and an idea of what your likes are. Also, you might see colours that you like. Stick this on your card as well.
